Chicken Feet - Natural Dog Treat

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

Benefits of chicken feet

There are two main benefits of feeding your dog dried chicken feet.

  • Dental Health - Whilst your dog happily crunches and chews its way through chicken feet the crunching action acts as a mild abrasion that helps to scrape away plaque and left over food lodged in their teeth. No treat works as well as actually brushing your dog's teeth, however, feeding chicken feet regularly can certainly help maintain healthy oral hygiene.

  • Joint health - Chicken feet contain high concentrations of glucosamine and chondroitin, these are commonly found in health supplements available to dogs. These are vital for healthy joint cartilage, therefore feeding your dog chicken feet can help improve overall joint health for older dogs suffering with arthritis, and dogs with joint conditions such as hip or elbow dysplasia. Chicken feet are a tastier, cheaper, and all natural alternative to manufactured supplements.

Are they safe?

You have probably heard advice to never feed your dog chicken bones.

This is very true when the bones have been cooked as they are likely to splinter. Cooked bones can cause digestive problems, stomach upset, blockages and choking hazards.

However, when chicken bones have been air dried or dehydrated the bones are crunchy and crumbly as they crush, rather than splintering. Making them perfectly safe to feed your dogs regularly.

Our chicken feet come in two options;

  • Dehydrated - These feet are cleaned and then dried in a dehydrator, this draws out all of the moisture to preserve them giving them a shelf life of around 6 months (if your dog lets them last that long!) Dehydrated chicken feet are usually yellow in colour and shriveled in appearance.

  • Puffed - These are prepared similarly to the dehydrated feet, the main difference is that puffed chicken feet have been air-dried which results in them retaining more nutritional value through the drying process. Puffed chicken feet are usually whiter in color, less greasy have a lower odour. They also tend to keep their shape better and have a puffed appearance.
